In my last post, I shared my experiences growing up in Pakistan. Today, I want to talk about the next chapter of my life: my medical training in the United States.

My journey in medicine began in West Virginia. Coming from the desert landscapes of Pakistan, I was immediately struck by the lush beauty of the Appalachian region. The rolling hills, dense forests, and winding rivers were a world apart from what I had known. As I immersed myself in my studies, I found myself equally captivated by the natural beauty surrounding me. It was a period of intense learning, both in medicine and in experiencing a completely new environment.

After my time in West Virginia, my path led me to New York City for my fellowship. If West Virginia had been a contrast to Pakistan, New York City was a return to the familiar in some ways. The city's energy immediately reminded me of Karachi, the bustling Pakistani city where I had spent my later childhood years.

New York City quickly became one of my favorite places. The constant motion, the diverse population, the endless opportunities - all of these elements combined to create an atmosphere that resonated deeply with me. I found myself completely immersed in the city's rhythm, balancing the demands of my medical fellowship with the excitement of exploring one of the world's greatest cities.

The contrast between the serene beauty of West Virginia and the electric energy of New York City provided me with a unique perspective on life in the United States. It showed me the country's diversity, not just in terms of landscapes and cities, but also in lifestyles and cultures.

These experiences during my medical training have profoundly influenced both my professional approach and personal outlook. They've taught me to appreciate diverse environments and to find value in both the calm of nature and the buzz of city life.
